Filing for Deceased Father's 1040-SR, E-filing "Sign Your 2025 Return" whose PIN and Date of Birth do I use? Also "Additional ID verification" whose ID do I use?

Using desktop version.  Father passed away in 2026, e-filing 2025 1040-SR (not the final year and an amount is owed).  I inputted my father's date of death and my name for the Care of Representative's name.

When e-filing "Sign Your 2025 Return" whose PIN and Date of Birth do I use, my father's or mine.  My father did not efile in the past so I'm guessing I can make up a PIN.

Also for "Additional ID verification" whose ID do I use, my father's or mine?

If the PIN, DOB, and ID are my father's information is there any additional information that I have to give besides my name as Care of Representative?   The desktop version does not asked me for my information when e-filing.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

@whoim1noone55 , I am so sorry for your loss.  I pray for the peace of the departed and consolation for the family.

This is your father's return -- everything pertains to him.  It is just like a  tax preparer  doing his return -- everything is the filers/taxpayer -- only the preparer signs as the preparer and mostly the contact person.  Ditto for you.

Note that if there are any refunds  to be received , you need to file a form 1310 to have the amounts available to you.  Of course , if his bank account is still open, the bank may accept the direct deposit ( unless they are aware of the passing) -- probate will seal all activities in the account.

My wife passed two years ago and I  kept the account open  till recently because of all the settlements/ bills / refunds etc.  that went through for another year and half.   Hopefully yours is an easier one.

Is there more I can do for you ?

Does this make sense ?

PK..... Thank you very much for your condolences and for responding to my questions.

So just to confirm when E-filing for "Sign your 2025 Return" make up a PIN for my father and use his DOB.
Also for "Additional ID verification" use my father's ID for verification.  All the information used for signing and verification are my father's information when e-filing.   I'm guessing all the information IRS needs is my name as the "Care of Representative".

This year he as an amount due so form 1310 is not required this year.  But I would need to compete one for 2026 his final tax return.

Agian, thank you very much for taking the time out to respond to my questions.

PK.... Thank you very much for your condolences and prayers and for your response to my questions.

So if I'm understanding this correctly for efiling signing purposes I would create a PIN for my father and use his DOB.  For "Additional ID verification" I would use my father's ID.

I'm guessing that the IRS would know that I'm efiling and signing his return since I filled in my name as "Care of Representative" and filled in his date of death.   No other information from me would be necessary to efile his 1040-SR.

He has an amount due this year so the form 1310 is not needed.  However, I would probably need to complete a Form 1310 for next year (2026) which would be his final tax year to report any income he earned up until his passing.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond to my questions.
