I'm running through a simple LLC return in TurboTax Business.
I need to file both federal and state taxes.
The federal due date is 3/15.
When I go through to purchase the State I need, I get a message saying the forms aren't going to be available until 3/18 for my state (LA).
So, I think I have two options.
1. File federal only and come back to file the LA state portion on or after 3/18. Assuming that TurboTax will let me do this since my federal taxes will already be complete.
2. Request an extension for federal taxes until the state forms are available and then be able to file both at the same time. Not sure how difficult this will even be.
Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Or am I missing something?

You are allowed to file your federal tax return prior to filing the state return. If turbo tax does not allow you to file it for some reason or is charging you ahead of time for the state return, you can just delete the state before filing the federal and then add it later.
I just efiled the 1065 federal return for our LLC which was due 3/15. Our PA return for the LLC is not due until April 18. I would assume that you can also efile your federal return now and download your state when it is available for filing later.
Yes, that is correct. You are allowed to file your Federal and State returns separately.
