Filing an amended 2021 federal return on turbotax

When I filed my 2021 federal return I checked that I had not received the Economic Impact Payment because I had not record of receiving it.  I just received a letter from the Treasury telling me that I did receive the payments of $1,400 each for me and my wife.  I cannot determine where to find that change when I tried to file a 1040X on turbotax.  How do I correct this error?  My return I filed showed that I would get a refund for $2,800 and that was in error.  Help.

No do not amend.   You just have to wait for the IRS to fix your mistake.   By answering incorrectly about the stimulus amount you received you put an amount on line 30 of your Form 1040.   The IRS checks that line.  They know how much they sent to you.   They will reduce your refund by that amount.   This will delay your refund so expect a wait.

If your banking records from mid-March onward do not show the deposits of $1400 per person and you truly believe you did not receive the $2800 last year then you can have the payments traced.  But---lots of people have somehow "forgotten" they got that money last year---so  be sure.
