Good evening,
Names John. I filed and it said they were accepted but then. I got a second email saying alert. I guess I owed money from 2022 that I didn't know about cause a buddy did my taxes. It also says that a percentage of it would go up the longer i didn't pay it. Is there anyway of getting out of it? How do I fix it?
Thanks

It depends. Is the amount you owe the amount that was showing as owed on your 2022 return as filed? Or did the IRS or a state make a change to your return? Do you have a copy of the return?
If you are wondering if you still owe the IRS for a previous year, you can find out online using the IRS Online Account for Individuals.
If you're a new user, have your photo identification ready. More information about identity verification is available on the sign-in page. You can use this Online Account to:
You can also make payments or set up a payment plan.
If you are wondering if you you still owe state taxes, contact your state's Department of Revenue. Use this tool to find the information for your state.
The IRS or state will charge interest and penalties on the accruing balance until it is paid. Taxes for tax yar 2022 were due in April, 2023.
Something sounds odd here. Without any additional information other than what you provided in your question, I would wonder if what you received could be a scam. You didn't say who this "alert" email is allegedly from. What kind of "alert" are you referring to and who allegedly sent it? Did you get something on your phone or computer such as a text or email, and it started off by saying "Alert" and then mentioned an alleged tax debt? The IRS does not use email or phone for initial contact. They normally would send a letter in the mail. There are known IRS scams asking for payment for "unpaid taxes", etc. There have even been scam postal letters, so you have to be careful with those, too.
You need to investigate this further to be sure it's not a scam. The IRS online account that @MonikaK1 mentioned above would be one way to get info about your tax account or to see if any notices/letters show up in your account. For the fastest route to see if this could be a scam, you can speak to the IRS and tell them what you received in this "alert", and ask them if the alleged tax debt is legitimate.
