It would be easier to help you if you gave the complete exact message. I am guessing that the question marks represent "must be present" or something to that effect. If so, it means that you did not enter the spouse's Social Security number on a joint return. (The "spouse" means whoever is listed second on the tax return.) You fix it by entering the spouse's Social Security number.
I would have thought that TurboTax would have flagged the omission as an error. Did you tell it to file even though the tax return contained errors?
There is another possibility, though. IRS e-filing does not officially start until next Monday, January 29. What they are doing this week is taking a small number of tax returns to test the e-file system. Your tax return apparently got taken as a test. There have been some reports of incorrect rejects during the testing, so it's possible that this is an IRS error. If you did enter Social Security numbers for both people on the joint tax return, just wait and try again after January 29.
Yep everything was entered correctly. there were actually 5 different errors I only listed one. I called support and spent about 1/2 hour on the phone, we think its a problem with Intuit not me. We concluded to wait a week like you said they are not open yet so that might be the problem. If only we had a government bill to hire 80k IRS workers?? If it doesn't work next week, I will just print it and mail it.
Thanks for the reply
