Exempt Interest Dividends

I moved from MD to DC late in 2024 and am filing part-year returns for both states. During 2024, I had exempt-interest dividends which I entered on the TurboTax 1099-DIV form, line 12. The T-T form also includes a state allocation box in which I recorded the MD portion and the portion for other states. With those entries, I expected the ‘other state portion’ to populate on line 2 of the MD 502 (ADDITION for tax-exempt interest on obligations other than MD). My Maryland return for 2023 has that ADDITION. On the 2024 form, that line is blank and is not set up for a manual entry. I would welcome any guidance the community may have for me. Many thanks!

Exempt Interest Dividends

You are correct that the MD should be picking up the non-MD portion and adding the interest. Deleting the 1099-DIV, and logging out is the first step. A full or corrupted cache can cause problems in TurboTax, sometimes you need to clear your cache (that is, remove these temporary files).

Online version:

  1. Delete the form.
  2. Log out of your return and try one or more of the following:
    • Don't use Internet Explorer.
    • Clear cache and cookies,
    • Sign in using a different browser.
    • Sign in using a different device.
  3. Log back into your return.
    • Enter the information again.
