I am using TurboTax Deluxe 2025.
When I enter the information for a cash charitable deduction the program does not ask me for the charities address. After I go through the menus to enter the information for a cash charitable deduction the system indicates "Needs Review". My assumption is that this deduction needs review because I did not enter an address. I have used turbo tax in previous years and the program prompted me for the address of the charity. I believe there is a bug in this version of turbo tax because the program does not ask me for an address when I enter a cash charitable donation.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
If you're seeing 'Needs Review' on the Income Topics page, this is a display issue only. Since you've determined that your charitable contribution is properly entered on your forms, this doesn't affect your tax return.
Check that your program is fully updated through the ONLINE link at the top. The 'Needs Review' should disappear after opening/closing the program, or entering more income items, since you started with Charitable Donations.
TurboTax asks for the address of the charity right after the Let's get some details about the value of your donation. If you indicate here that you had an appraisal, it will ask for the appraiser's information first then the charity address. If you indicate that you did not have an appraisal, it will be the next screen.
You can also add in Forms mode to clear the error. Please let us know if you go through and do not get the screen that asks for the address.
Maryk, thanks for replying to my issue. The information you show seems to apply to a non cash donation (e.g. clothing donation). My issue is with a cash donation which has nothing to do with the physical condition of the item you donated.
Here are some more details about this issue:
I start on the screen that is titled “Your charities and donations” note that I don't have all the information needed to do my taxes so I am starting to enter my charities now before adding my tax information.
I select “add another charity” And it goes to the screen “Lets enter you charities one at a time” and I enter the charity name and check the Cash box and select continue
On the next screen is says Enter your total cash donations to <charity name> and I enter the value of my cash donation and select continue
The next screen is titled “Your charities and donation” and by the charity I just entered it says “needs review”. I select the edit button for that charity and it takes me back to the screen “Let’s enter your charities one at a time”
I never have the opportunity to enter the address of my charity.
According to the IRS Instructions for Schedule A - Cash Contributions, "The written record must include the name of the charity, date, and amount of the contribution." The address of the charity is not necessary.
Turbo Tax shows "Needs Review", I went to the forms view and the charitable amount and name of charity was already on the form, I entered the date and the address of the charity and Turbo tax still shows "Needs Review". In previous versions of Turbo Tax the step by step instructions would ask me for the date and address. I believe there is a software issue. I cannot figure out how to remove the "Needs Review" indication.
This was resolved in the latest update.
I updated my version of Turbo Tax Deluxe on 2/24/26 and the problem still exists. If I select add a charity, I specify the charity name, select a cash donation, select continue, enter the amount of my cash donation, select continue, and the new charity specifies "Needs Review" if I try to edit the charity fix this issue, I get the same screens as when I added the charity.
My guess is that I need to enter additional information about the charity to fix the "Needs Review" but the screens do not allow me to enter the information needed to clear the "Needs Review". I believe this is a software issue that needs to be resolved

I opened Turbo Tax and I used the Online pull down menu to check for updates and the program said that "Your software is up to date" and on the "Your charities and donations" page it still says "Needs Review". I closed down the turbo tax program and restarted the program and on the "Your charities and donations" page it still says "Needs Review".
I identified this issue on February 8th, it is now March 5th and this issue is still not resolved. Entering cash charitable contributions is a basic function that should work. I am very disappointed with Turbo Tax. I have used Turbo Tax for many years. If this issue is not resolved soon I will be using H&R Block software to do my taxes next year.
I noticed that MarilynG1 above said to try entering more income items. So I tried this and my problem is now resolved. Thanks MarilynG1
It is not clear to me that the Needs Review is pointing to a lack of an address for a cash donation. However, obviously, neither one of us knows what is triggering this.
What I would do is look at your forms (are you an Online user or a Desktop user - do you know how to do this)? Delete any forms related to your charities. Then start over again on the charitable contributions.
