Entering outstanding mortage principal takes away my refund.

When I entered the mortgage interest, my refund increased. However, when I entered the outstanding mortgage principal, it took away the added refund. I’ve been filling as head of household and nothing has drastically changed from my previous returns. Can someone please advise?

I would check your Form 1098 entries to make sure you have entered everything in the right place.

You can get back to your Form 1098 screens in TurboTax by:

  1.  Click on "Search" (magnifying glass) at the top right of your screen and
  2. Type "1098" in the search bar. ‌
  3. Click on "Jump to 1098."  This will allow you to review your entries for your mortgage interest from Form 1098.

It will look something like this:
