Entering Amounts for Expenses related to portfolio income from Schedule(s) K-1

I have received a final K-1 from an Estate. Box 11 B is checked and includes several thousand dollars that the fiduciary states is an Other Miscellaneous Deduction - Not Subject to 2% limitation. When I enter the information on the K-1 section of EasyStep, I get a warning that I need to enter the amount(s) from the statement in the corresponding topic in TurboTax.

There is a section in the Misc Dedns worksheet (Line 28) that allows for "Expenses related to portfolio income from Schedule(s) K-1", but I can't find any way to populate that entry without using Override. Of course, if you use Override, then TurboTax flags it as an error and won't let you electronically file your taxes.

I have tried to enter the amounts under "Retirement Investments - Other Investment Expenses" and "Other Deductible Expenses" and in both cases, it just crosswalks it to "Miscellaneous Expenses - Subject to 2% Limitation".

Is there a place to enter it so that it flows into the Misc Dedns worksheet, Line 28"Expenses related to portfolio income from Schedule(s) K-1" like it is supposed to and thus onto Line 16 of the Schedule A?

Entering Amounts for Expenses related to portfolio income from Schedule(s) K-1

Box 11 for a K-1 (Form 1041) is for Final Year Deductions. Code B notates it is for Excess Deductions - non-miscellaneous itemized deduction.

This will go on Schedule A, Line 16, as Other itemized deductions.

You should have a supplemental statement attached to your K-1 telling you what that money represents.

This could be something like, Amortizable Bond Premium, Estate Tax Deduction, or Unrecovered Pension Investments. If the fiduciary did not include a supplemental page or tell you what the specific deduction was, you may need to ask them for the description.

  1. Enter your K-1 (Form 1041) exactly as it appears.
  2. When you select Box 11, Code B, type in the dollar amount.
  3. This is where you are seeing the "need to enter the amount(s) from the statement in the corresponding topic in TurboTax".
  4. It sounds like you did find the Miscellaneous Deductions Worksheet in Forms mode.
  5. On that worksheet, there should be an X next to Line 28 on this worksheet.
  6. Where you enter the amount from Box 11B will be based on the supplemental statement from the fiduciary.
  7. See line 28-37 on the worksheet and enter the amount on the line that corresponds to the supplemental statement.
  8. Once you put an amount on one of these lines, the description and amount should go straight to Line 16 of your Schedule A.
