"enrollmentstatus must be entered." I have reviewed the entire thing 5 times, there's nothing that needs to be filled in. Won't let me file. Is it just a glitch?

I get to the end of the review and it pops up that "person on the return worksheet: enrollmentstatus must be entered" I've reviewed it 5 times, there's nothing that needs to be entered. I've looked everywhere. Pretty sure this is just a glitch, but it wont let me file. I already paid to file too, so i can't just not use this service and go somewhere else.

If you are getting the message that enrollment status must be entered in your TurboTax program, it usually happens in TurboTax when a Form 1098-T is entered without specifying if the student was at least half-time. Be sure to re-select your enrollment status (For example: at least half-time, full-time, or less than half-time).

To fix this, you can delete and re-enter your Form 1098-T using the steps listed below.

To delete Form 1098-T if you are using TurboTax Online:

  1. In your left panel of your TurboTax screen click on "Tax Tools"
  2. And then Click on "Tools"
  3. Click on "Delete a Form"
  4. Scroll through your list of Forms
  5. Click the garbage can next to "Form 1098-T"

To delete Form 1098-T if you are using TurboTax Desktop, you can:

  1. Click on "Forms" in the upper right of your TurboTax screen to switch to "Forms Mode"
  2. In your left panel scroll down and look for "Form 1098-T"
  3. In your right panel at the bottom of Form 1098-T, click on "Delete Form"
  4. Click on "Yes" to confirm the deletion.

To re-enter your Form 1098-T and review your entries, you can:

  1. Click on Search at the top right of your TurboTax screen
  2. Type Form 1098-T in the search box
  3. Click on the link Jump to Form 1098-T and Enter
  4. Your screen will say Did you have education expenses? Answer Yes and Continue
  5. Your screen will say Tell us which person was a student in 2025 Answer and Continue
  6. Your screen will say Let's get XXX education info Was XXX working on an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate Degree Answer Yes and Continue
  7. Your screen will say Did XXX have any of these common situations in 2025?Answer and Continue
  8. Your screen will say Did XXX have any of these uncommon situations in 2025? Answer and Continue
  9. The following screen is What was XXX's enrollment status in 2025? Select Full-time, At least half-time or Less than half-time and Continue
  10. Continue through your TurboTax screens and make sure all follow-up questions were answered correctly

In some cases, deleting the student as a dependent and re-adding them, then re-entering the 1098-T, is necessary to resolve the issue.

Where do I enter Form 1098-T (Tuition Statement)?

I keep getting the same message, and there is nothing for me to fill in anywhere. The message has to be a glitch because it is misspelled as "Person on the Retun Worksheet: Enrollmentstatus must be entered."   It won't direct me to anything specific.  I have gone over every step several times for the past 2 hours, and there is nothing that allows me to fix it or bypass it to efile.

Did you try following the steps provided by @LindaS5247 in response to another user in the post above yours?

The message about "enrollmentstatus" typically refers to there being a student on the return whose enrollment status needs to be verified in the Form 1098-T section, or an issue with Form 1099-Q. The recommended solution is to delete the Form 1098-T and/or 1099-Q that has the error and enter the information again correctly.

Steps to Fix "Enrollment Status" Error (Online & Desktop)

  • Delete the Form/Worksheet: Navigate to the Tools center and select "Delete a form." Find and delete the "Person on the Return Worksheet" or any erroneous 1099-Q or 1098-T forms.
  • Re-verify Personal Info: Go to the "Personal Info" section and edit your information to ensure student status questions are answered correctly (e.g., changing "Yes" to "No" if not a student).
  • Check 529 Distribution (1099-Q): If you are using 529 funds for private K-12 education, the 1099-Q might cause this issue. Deleting the 1099-Q form, if the distribution is not taxable, often clears the error.

I had the same problem, and deleting the 1099-Q did not help.  (My dependent's high school did not provide a 1098-T.)  TurboTax kept recreating the problematic worksheet, complete with the same error.  Ironically the enrollment status was marked with an X on the 'Yes' on that form, and TurboTax would not allow me to change it.  What did finally work for me was to delete the forms and worksheet, completely delete my dependent out of TurboTax, save and close TurboTax, and then re-open and re-add.  Praying that that did not mess something else up; my return was accepted, so far so good.

The same thing happened to me. Very frustrating to have to print & send tax returns. The program is supposed to work, and it's not cheap. Maybe it's time to switch to a better program.
