Downloaded 2019 tax file and 2019 tax software from turbo tax. It sill not upload the 99% done file... only a 2018 file? Please help!

You don't upload a 2019 tax file into the 2019 program ... you OPEN the 2019 file.  Only the 2018 tax file can be transferred into the 2019 program.

So which do you want to do?  

How do I open a . tax file?

1. Download and install TurboTax if it isn't already installed.
2. Run TurboTax.
3. Click on File (in the top left corner) and then select Open Tax Return from the sub-menu list.
4. Navigate to where the . tax(year) file is and open it.

If your .tax2019 File has any state returns in it you need to first download the state program.

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW TAX RETURN)

Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.

This doesn’t work.  It only opens files with 2018 or pdf extensions.  It doesn’t even “see” the file with the 2019 turbo tax extension.  Please help.

If the search function doesn't find any files ending in .tax2019 then where do you have it ?   It must be on the computer's hard drive and not a removable storage unit.   If you downloaded it from the Online program then download it again and watch where it is being stored so you can direct the program to the file.   And you want to OPEN the 2019 file not transfer the 2018 file ... they are not the same thing.

Sounds like you are still at the beginning when you start a new return it is trying to TRANSFER a 2018 return into 2019.   Or you are launching the 2018 program.  

What screen are you on?  Can you post a screen shot?  Where is your file ending in .tax2019?  What happens when you go up to the very top left FILE -> OPEN?

Are you on Windows or Mac?
