I believe you know the steps to enter an asset. I think you mean it is literally missing. Since I am using the same desktop software and I can see mine, this is about your program.
Follow these steps:
If the button is still missing, you need to uninstall and reinstall the program. Your files are saved and you can continue using them once your program is correct.

Thank you. I see you are referring to the Q&A paradigm. I use forms directly. But, i'll try something similar tomorrow. (Funny story: The intuit help line told me to clear my browser!? 🙂 I told them again that i was using desktop. And, they insisted i clear the browser. then they said i should use the web version schedule E and start over! And earlier that i should delete my schedule E and reenter it. She had no clue.)
Thank you, Amy. When i returned to address this, there was an update which corrected the problem. Now the legacy entry field in forms mode permitting me to identify the Schedule E to which my asset relates has been restored.
I am becoming disillusioned with the current level of support from Intuit itself. It would have been apropos if Turbo Tax/Intuit support had been able to simply tell me that there was a bug that was being fixed and would be corrected in the next update. Updates happen daily at this stage of the tax prep process. But the agent helping me was clearly a total novice.
