Does Turbo Tax not offer a military discount?

Yes, TurboTax Online offers free federal and state tax filing (TurboTax Free Edition, Deluxe, or Premium) for U. S enlisted active-duty service members and reservists (ranks E-1 through E-9). 

To ensure that you get the military discount, review your entries in the personal info section. 

1. Open TurboTax and select My Info from the menu
2. Select the dropdown by Your info and select Edit/Revisit
3. Select Edit under Personal profile and check your entries
4. Scroll through the screens until you get to Let's check for some other situations
5. Make sure that you have shown your military status as of December 31, 2025? and answered all of the questions
6. Make sure that you entered your highest military pay grade in 2025
7. Enter an answer for combat zone or hazardous duty area you served in during 2025
8. Select a state and select Assignment detail.

When you enter your military W-2, TurboTax will automatically apply the discount when you file.

Thank you for the response.  I have just verified that information again and have followed it to the letter, and still no discount is being applied.

Did you enter a military (from DFAS)  W-2?  It is required for the promotion.   Go back and verify the EIN number you entered on that W-2.   If you have a W-2 with a military EIN entered and you have ensured you entered a qualifying rank (make sure you did not select something other than Enlisted 1-9), the discount will be applied automatically.   Oh, and just to confirm, are you using TurboTax Online?  

File your own taxes and get your 2025 federal and state taxes FREE when you:

• Offer valid for active duty and reservists of an enlisted rank
  (E-1 through E-9) with a W2 from DFAS
• Excludes National Guard members
• Excludes TurboTax Live products
• Discount will be applied when you are ready to file

Yes i have checked the EIN and verified that i'm inputing a rank within those boundries.  I'm an E-7.  I am filing mairried joint.  Will that effect it?

Married filing jointing filing status should not effect the military discount.

There is NO military tax discount on TurboTax Experts or TurboTax Desktop products.

To get started, enter your W-2 and verify your military rank when prompted within the TurboTax Online Product (Free Edition, Deluxe, Premium). Your military tax discount will be applied when you are ready to file.

I've followed all instructions here and have always used TurboTax to file. I've never run into this issue until now. I've entered all of my military information in the "Your Info" section and entered my W2s. They have the same EINs as the ones I entered last year, except last year, I was able to file for free. This year, I'm being charged.
