DOES IT MATTER WHICH SPOUSE DEPENDENTS ARE ASSIGNED TO ON A MARRIED FILING SEPARATE STATE TAX RETURN?
No, but if one spouse has little or no income, it wouldn't make sense to claim dependents on that return. The child-related tax credits don't apply to MFS returns.
