You may have to wait until late February for the software's form 8936 to be updated to the new rules.

Right now, that's scheduled for 21 Feb!!!!...REALLY late...but could change:

At the end of each week, Keep an eye on the schedule for it here....date could change:

But shouldn't the new rules only apply to those that purchased the car after January 1st for 2024?  We purchased this car back in May for 23, so for my understanding we would have to go by the rules of last year.

I don't know the details of the 2023 vs 2024 rules.

It's just that the actual "software" tax form you will need for 2023 taxes will apparently not be fully available in the "software" until late Feb (though the software team might change that date as they progress).

SO the proper allowances dates etc will not be updated until the full form is "software" ready.

Right but shouldn't the software already have that option built in since my car qualifies under last years rules?  I know this tax credit has been around for at least a few years.

Don't know.....as a wild Guess, I imagine the internal database links can be all wrong until the final form is updated in the software....and perhaps old rules have been just partially overwritten.

No one will really know if it's set up wrong in the software....out here in the forum...until the final form is ready/updated and people get a chance to try it out in it's (supposedly) Final form.
