What type of form 1099? A 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B or a 1099-MISC or a 1099-NEC?

Then he received this from self-employment. Since the amount is greater than $400 he is required to file a tax return and report his self-employment income and expenses on Schedule C of the federal tax return, Form 1040. If he has a net profit from the self-employment he will need to pay Self-Employment taxes, which are separate from federal income taxes.
He will need to indicate on his tax return that he can be claimed as a dependent.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for a Schedule C - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/enter-schedule-...
