Do I need to still mail in taxe forms into the IRS if I attempted to efile before Oct 17, but it was rejected due to our dependent having filed taxes (although he didnt)?

He didnt file, and that is a whole other issue that we need to sort out. But need to know asap if I should mail the forms in anyway.

If your return rejected for a duplicate ssn then  you will have to mail it unless you can figure out what happened and correct a ssn on your return.  You have until Oct 22 to resubmit a rejected return.  It doesn't mean he filed a return.  But a return was filed with his ssn on it.  Could be just a mistake on someone else's return and they typed a ssn wrong and got his.

It is unclear from your post whether your child filed a return using his SSN and said he could not be claimed as a dependent.   If that happened, then you cannot e-file.   Your only way to file a return claiming your child is by mail.   If he filed and said he could not be claimed then he can amend later to fix his mistake.   But if a return has been filed already with his SSN, then your only way to file is to print, sign and mail your return.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
