If you are the custodial parent, you do not need to include any other forms unless there is a Form 8332 in place that allows the noncustodial parent to claim. If you do not receive the Advanced Child Tax Credits, indicate so on the return and you will receive the entire amount when you file the return (regardless of whether the other parent received them.)
If you are the custodial parent, you can use Form 8332 to do the following.
What if the other parent files the form for the advance tax credit that he received?
No, if you did not give the Form 8332 waiver of dependent exemption to the noncustodial parent, there is nothing you need to file with your tax return for you to claim your daughter. The custodial parent is not required to attach any document. You should always be prepared to show proof that your daughter does live at your address (school or doctor records, etc).
You will enter any advance child tax (ACTC) payments you received or if none, then zero. If the noncustodial parent claimed your daughter in 2020 and did receive the ACTC, they will enter what they received and my have to repay that.
There is a possibility for Repayment Protection for the other parent if they qualify. More information can be found here for that parent.
