Do I have to include my 1098 information on my free edition taxes? I mean do I owe or get back more because of this form or is it something you only use when itemizing?

For federal it is only if you itemize so your itemized deductions would have to exceed the standard deduction for it to be valuable:

Standard deductions for 2017

Single - $6,350 add $1,550 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Separately - $6,350 add $1,250 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Jointly - $12,700 add $1,250 for each spouse age 65 or older
Head of Household - $9,350 add $1,550 if age 65 or older
