Do i have to file taxes if I only made $1,000 last year, went exempt, and receive government assistance?

If this was W-2 income you would be below the filing requirements. Any Self Employment income of at least $400.00 must be filed.  See your filing requirements below. https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302274
