Do I have to file a tax return for 2015 in order to file a tax return for 2016?

I did not make enough money in 2015 to file for a return. However I did make enough in 2016 to file for a return, so I was wondering if I was required to file for 2015 as well?

No, if you didn't have a filing requirement in 2015 you don't need to file a 2015 return.
