If you are the custodial parent who the child lived with more than half the year, you must provide your ex a form 8332 or similar signed statement allowing the ex to claim the dependency exemption and child tax credit for the child. You are allowed to file as Head of Household and claim the credit for child and dependent care expenses, the exclusion for dependent care benefits, and earned income credit. You would enter the child on your tax return as a non dependent for EIC and child care credit only.
