You do not have to claim the child's dependent, but you could as long as the child was born alive, was issued a certificate of live birth and obtained a social security number. The deduction will help reduce your taxable income. If you decide you want to claim the child, you would indicate in the program that the child lived with you all year (12 months). I am so sorry for the loss.
