Do either of these choices apply if I simply create content for my monetized YouTube channel? If so, which one should I select?

I am being asked to select the source of my royalty income on my 1099-MISC form from two choices: Royalty investment income from a natural resource, intellectual property or other investment portfolio; or Royalty income from being self-employed as a writer, investor, artist etc or operating any business derived from natural resources. I am not sure which of these applies to me if I only create content for my YouTube channel.

If you are still actively involved in creating content for your YouTube channel, then the income should be reported on Schedule C Business Income and Expenses.  You would select the second choice - Self-employed ...  Or, enter the Form 1099-MISC directly as part of the Schedule C income for your business of creating content.

If you are not actively creating new content, but you just continue to receive income from the content you published in the past, then you would select the first choice - Royalty investment income ... from intellectual property ...
