Credit for Other Dependents says less than $4,150 gross income in 2018. Why doesn't TT ask dependent's income? Our dependent's gross income was > than the max allowed

My dependent fulfills all other requirements for "Credit to Other Dependents"

We are married filing jointly, dependent is 22, earned  > $4150. We provided more than half dependent's support. TurboTax appears to automatically give us the $500 credit without asking how much gross income the dependent had for 2018

If the person is not a full time student he/she cannot be your dependent if earnings are over 4150.  So that person should not appear on you return at all and should file their own return.

Thank you for the reply. The dependent IS a full time student! Sorry I forgot to add that to my question

The program then knows the dependent is over age 16 and so qualifies for the "other dependent" $500.  It doesn't matter how much income the dependent has as long as the dependent does not provide half of their support.

Can someone who is disabled and made over that amount be claimed as a dependent?

Disabled in the context of tax law means that you have documentation that you are not able to have gainful employment.
