There is no sense in waiting for someone else's return to be amended before you file your own return.  Amended returns take months to be processed, and are currently sitting in trailers with any other mailed returns.  You cannot e-file this year if someone has used your Social Security number  in any way and prevented you from being able to e-file or if you son said he could not be claimed but you are claiming him.    Your only way to file your own return is to print sign and mail it.  You will not be able to e-file.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Sorry.

No point in waiting.

Amended returns NO NOT reset the SSN in the IRS e-file system at all this year.  Once a SSN has been used then no other tax return can be e-filed at any time in the same year with the same SSN.   That is to prevent tax fraud.
