Court Deposition Income Deduct Expenses?

I received income as a witness in a court case related to my profession. It doesn't sound like I will receive a 1099 for the income so I know I can file it under "Other income not reported on a W-2". However, can I deduct any expenses related to the deposition since I had to travel and I paid a lawyer to represent me during the deposition?

i would say proper reporting would be on schedule C where the incomer and expenses can be reported.

Hi Mike,

Ok, that's what I thought was the best place. Appreciate it.

Other income not already reported on a Form W-2 or Form 1099 is generally for wage income. If this income is wages (generally reported on a W-2), unreimbursed employee expenses are not deductible.

If you want to report expenses related to your witness self-employment income, you'll need to file a Schedule C (Form 1040).
