Claiming grandchild that is insured by an uncle thru the marketplace

Our grandson has been living with us for over a year.  However it is extremely expensive to enroll him in our medical insurance.  His uncle has insured him through his marketplace policy.  We filed our tax return today (3/21/2025) and it was rejected because we did not file form 8962.  We did not receive 1095-A because we do not a marketplace provider.  Will we still be able to get the child care credit because he is living with us and we are providing the majority of his care with the exception of his medical insurance.

If you are claiming the grandchild, you can include the 1095-A information on your return- you can ask the uncle for the information.

You would not be able to claim the Child Care Credit if you do not claim him as a dependent.

Thank you for the quick reply. I have since obtained a photocopy of the 1095-A; however, do we have to ask the marketplace for a breakdown on premiums distinguishing the policy members. Separating out my grandchild?

thank you

No, you can allocate the policy between the people on the 1095-A.  You are allowed to allocate any way if everyone agrees; otherwise allocate by %.  @Hjsoliz1
