Claiming dependent

My address is the same as my girlfriend, she made no income and I provided for her all year, but I have stayed in PA for work for past five months, sending her money that I can show on my cash app history, I didn't change address on i.d and am going back home just staying and working in PA at the time. Can I still claim her as a dependent?

Claiming dependent

Yes, if:

  • your permanent address was the same as hers all year
  • you were only temporarily absent for work
  • she has no income, and
  • you are continuing to support her, she doesn't provide over half of her own support, and no one else supports her,

you can continue to claim her as a dependent. You would be able to report the Credit for Other Dependents on your tax return.

See this article for more information on qualified dependents. Enter dependent information in the Personal Info section of TurboTax.
