claiming child who died

One of my relative had a daughter that was born in March 2023 and lived for only 1 month.

Can she claim her and if so, how many months can she claim or is it no matter what month the child is born during the year the child is claimed to have lived in the home the entire year?

Also, I did not see anywhere in the tax program to enter the death certificate. Is that required?

Yes if she meets all the other requirements

Who can I claim as my dependent?

You friend doesn't need to enter the death certificate.

Under my info when entering the dependent information, continue  to the screen Did any of these apply to xxx, select Passed away in 2023.

The child is considered to have lived with her mom the whole year.

    Thank you for your response.

Yes was selected when asked did the child live with you for all of 2023. However, the program being used to complete the return does not provide the option below. Furthermore, no questions was asked if the child passed away. Should I quit and use TurboTax instead?

You certainly can use TurboTax.   This is a TurboTax forum, so that is the only software we can answer questions about here.   In TurboTax, as long as you enter ''child lived in my home all year'', which is the correct response for a child born or died during the year, you will qualify for the credit.
