We are claiming my step son this year per his mother's written consent. When we enter our child tax credit information though, I don't want to mess things up. I put in the information that we received from the IRS for one of our other children - but is there anything else I need to do so that the tax prep program does not think no one received child tax credit money for my step son? His mother received his child tax credit money.

You do not need to concern yourself with the child tax credit payments that were received by the other parent between July and December. If she received the advance payments and is not claiming the child for 2021, then depending on her income, she may or may not have to pay it back. That is not your problem.
All you need to do is prepare your own tax return and claim your child. The software will put the amount of CTC that you are eligible for on line 28 of your Form 1040.
Ok my next question is, we did not receive child tax payments for my baby born in May of 2021. Will those get added to my tax return since we never received those payments?
Yes---you should get the child-related credits for a child born in 2021 including the $1400 stimulus.
Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year. There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support. Say NO to that question.
Stimulus money will show up on line 30.
