Child-I have a 17 year old who is claiming his first job. I am doing his taxes thru his own account and it is giving him a full federal refund

Why would he be getting a full refund if I am claiming him as well.  He made over $4k, should he owe more than the $207 he paid in?

Even if he is being claimed as your dependent, he is not taxed on up to $6300 of his earnings except for the Social Security and Medicare which will be be refunded.  He does not get the $4050 personal  exemption--you get that--but he gets his own standard deduction which lowers the amount of income he is taxed on.
