Case #xxxxxxxxx Can you determine what product I used for my 2017 taxes and for my 2018 taxes, and explain why there was no compatibility nor transfer. [PII]

TurboTax for my 2018 taxes was a frustrating disaster, apparently due to unknowingly using a grossly inferior product to what I had used in the past.  I have no desire to make the same mistake that I made this year, but I am unclear what to do to assure I have the convenience I experienced on the 2017 tax return for my 2019 tax return.

It sounds like you used the Desktop/CD product in the past and, this year, used the online version.  We can't see your account but, if you have TurboTax icons for prior year programs on your own desktop then you used the Desktop/CD version.  The online version does not create an icon on your desktop.

You also cannot directly see or work on forms in the online version.

it's not unheard of for a person to buy and download the CD version, but to then login to an online version and use that instead, by accident. If you want to use your CD version, you need to make sure to always open the program by clicking on your desktop icon.

You don't gt an automatic transfer from one year to the next if you switch from Desktop to Online.  With Desktop, your returns exist on your own computer.  With online, they exist on our servers.

To transfer from desktop to online, you would need to specifically navigate to where you have your returns stored on your computer in order to connect the two.
