How to import a schedule K-1
You can only import a K-1 to the Desktop CD/Download Software, not to Online version and if you can get a .txf file for it and in the right format. Apparently you can only import K-1s for MLPs and not Trusts or Estates. You can not import a K-1 from Turbo Tax Business Program.
To enter a K-1 go to
Federal Taxes Tab or Personal (Home & Business version)
Wages and Income
Then scroll way down to Business items
Schedules K-1, Q - Click the Start or Update button
Be sure to pick the right kind of K-1. There are 3 kinds, 1041, 1065 & 1120S
Enter each k-1 separately.
ps....you don't enter K-1s you get for IRA, 401K or retirement accounts.
Importing K-1s from Taxpackage.
1. You can NOT import Taxpackage K-1s to any online version of Turbo Tax.
2. You can import most Taxpackage K-1's in TurboTax Premier desktop version.
1) Create a txf file by selecting TurboTax Download for your specific K-1 in Taxpackage.
You must create a separate txf file for each K-1
2) You DO NOT import in the K-1 section of the program
3. Select "File" in the upper left corner
4) Select "Import"
5) Select "From Accounting Software"
6) Select "Other Financial Software (TXF file)
7) Browse to find your K-1 downloads and "import now"
There will be some minor cleanup you will have to do on the imported K-1s.
Hope this helps. I couldn't find anyone when calling TurboTax who knew you do this!
Great. Thanks for posting this. I'll add it to my notes. But I think you can use any Desktop version, even Deluxe and Basic.
