Can you claim a child as a dependent if they were living with the other parent but you supported the child since the other parent was unemployed?

Thank you for contacting AnswerXchange. If you supported more than one-half of the child's support for the year you can claim them. The parent who is not claiming the child must not have the child on their return at all.
