Thank you for contacting AnswerXchange. If you supported more than one-half of the child's support for the year you can claim them. The parent who is not claiming the child must not have the child on their return at all.

Please be sure to speak with the other guardian before putting the child on your return to avoid IRS penalties and any delay regarding your return.
