Can the home heating credit form cause me to have to upgrade to deluxe?
Yes. Form 5695 is not included in the free version.
However, the only credit that did not expire is for solar power/solar hot water. Everything else (doors, furnaces, etc.) expired at the end of 2016 and has been removed from the form.

If you don't need deluxe, but have already upgraded, you would have to "clear and start over" to downgrade.
