Can't update return online, TurboTax forces me to download .tax file

I need to update my 2024 as IRS just rejected my 2024 amendment (I used TurboTax online to amend).  However after i log into my TurboTax account, it is forcing me to download the .tax file but i never purchased the desktop version.  please help!

You can no longer work on a 2024 tax return in TurboTax Online. TurboTax Online is only for the current tax year, which is now 2025. To work on your 2024 tax return you have to use the desktop TurboTax software for 2024. If you call customer service they might give you a download of the 2024 desktop software at no charge.

Thank you, I downloaded the desktop version for 2024 amend and made the change i needed.  but now TT is saying I need to wait until state is processed before updating federal... so do i just wait for state to be processed?

Yes. Wait until the State tax return is accepted, then file your federal return. TurboTax should let you know when that happens, usually with an email or a message when you open the return.
