Can someone look into the tax calculation for Iowa state income tax? It does not appear to be calculating correctly.

Can you tell us a little bit more about what you are seeing that appears incorrect so that we may better assist?

I am working on my son's taxes; I have taxable income of $1,965 on line 4 of the IA 1040 and it calculates $0 for Iowa income tax on line 5.  However, when I use the tax calculation worksheet (single, filing status 1) from the Iowa tax website, I calculate an income tax of $86.  When working on my daughter's taxes, I have a similar issue.

As you know, we in the Community cannot see your private tax data, so we are having to guess at what input you might be entering for your children.

I would venture to say that the calculation of tax in Iowa is not as simple as completing the tax calculation worksheet.

For example, please review this section of the Iowa instructions and see if it applies to your children.
