can my son use my turbo tax to file his federal return

it says u can file 5 returns but how do u do it?

The TurboTax online editions can only be used for one tax return per account and User ID.

When using the TurboTax desktop editions, 5 e-files are included with the software.  Any returns over 5 have to be printed and mailed.

It depends. If you are using TurboTax Online then you must create a new account for another person. Only one account can be used for each tax return.  

If you are using TurboTax Desktop you can prepare five returns. Use the following steps: 

1. Click File in the top menu bar while your return is open
2. Select New Tax Return
3. It will ask if you want to save the file - answer 'Yes' or 'No'
4. You will land on the screen Continue Your 2025 Tax Return > Select 'Start a New Return'

If you are using the Online version you can use the same email address for 5 accounts.  Each account needs a new username and password and has separate fees unless you can use the Free Edition for a return.  If you use the same account then his return will overwrite yours and your return will be gone.

The Desktop installed program can do unlimited returns and efile 5 federal for free.
