Can my ex claim my child on taxes? He has never met her, he isnt on the birth certificate.I have gotten child support (very small payments)
My ex is trying to say he can claim her every other year but I don't see how it is possible considering he has never once been in her life? She has never lived with him , she has never met him.

No, it would only be possible for him to claim the child's exemption if it was court-ordered or there was an agreement between you and the other parent. (This is done by filing Form 8332 with your tax return)

He would need the child's Social Security number in order to claim the child. If he somehow obtained it and has filed a tax return claiming the child:
Someone else claimed my dependent and my return was rejected
If someone else claimed your dependent already, then your e-filed return will be rejected. Print, sign and mail your own return which claims your dependent. Mailed returns are processed differently by the IRS. It will take some time (maybe even up to a year) but eventually the IRS will contact both parties and sort out who could rightfully claim the dependent. The person who wrongfully claimed the dependent will face repayment of refund $, plus penalties.
