No, you cannot use TurboTax to file, unfortunately. You are considered as a nonresident for 2017 and 2018. As TurboTax does not support any nonresident tax forms, you are advised to contact our partner Sprintax to complete your filing. Note that in 2019, this year, if you stay more than 183 days in the US, you will be a resident and can file with us in the next tax season (filing 2019 tax year).
Hello,
I just have a quick question regarding tax return for J1 students.
I just finished my Internship last Dec 2019. I was informed that i needed to file my tax return before April 15. so I filed mine last March 28, 2020. I am a bit concerned because when i tried to track my tax return using the IRS tracker it said that my form can not be found. But i got a confirmation from turbo tax that it was filed. Should i be alarmed and file my taxes again?
Lastly, I was not informed that non US residents can not use turbotax to file tax returns. Could this be the reason why i could not tack it using the IRS tracker? Please advice on what steps i should be taking to get my tax returns.
