why do you think an expert can tell if something is missing by looking at your tax return ?
TurboTax Live Assisted includes help from a tax expert:
"Talk live with tax experts as often as you need and get an expert review before you file to make sure you get your maximum refund or biggest tax savings."
@fanfare Are you saying they don't actually make sure I get my maximum refund or biggest tax savings as advertised?
The $170 is the difference to upgrade to Live Premier. Live is 189 for federal and 64 for state. Minus the $79 you paid is $174.

I don't trust Intuit.
I don't trust SBTPG bank.
I'm wary that the CPA assigned to you will be diligent.
After trying the service, reply back and tell us how it worked out for you.
I feel similar, I filled in the details for my complicated taxes in between work meetings, I've spent probably 30-40 hours on my 2020 returns already and the audit thermometer says, this looks safe to submit.. still I'm curious if my understanding of the taxes is correct and if I've mis-interpreted anything. I've paid for the audit protection, however there is still that nagging feeling.. "did I do something wrong?"
I pondered the same question the original poster asked and looking at the responses, it seems like, yes you can pay the difference. but what happens then? Do you get to pick an qualified tax accountant who will review return? ( Hopefully someone who has worked at the IRS for several years already doing tax audits)
1) If you are using the "Online" browser-based software. DO NOT submit it since Online can only be used for 2022 taxes now.
2) IF you are using the Desktop software....then 2020 taxes can only be printed and mail-filed by you now. No e-filing since e-filing for 2020 taxes ended in October of 2021. (Professional preparers may be able to e-file for you, but not consumer software).
Yes, you are on your own with the desktop software. You just have to make sure you have entered every scrap of income you received during 2020, all 1099-??? forms, 1098 forms, W-2 forms, brokerage forms interest dividends, etc.. Print out a copy to make sur it is all correct, then redo any section that looks "off". Don't wait for the software to ask about some income item or deduction......go find it in the menus and make sure it's been entered.
IF you don't understand yoru paperwork, or do not know generally how to do taxes, get a "trusted" friend or colleague to review it for you......or take a leap and go to an actual tax professional this year to prepare and file your taxes. get it right.
What year are you working on? Did you mean 2022. If you are using Turbo Tax Online for 2022 (online is only for 2022 now) you can add Turbo Tax LIVE.
What is LIVE

Then how to connect to an expert in Turbo Tax Live
How to schedule a review in Turbo Tax Live
After you upgrade to Live and then do a Review of your return, you will get an option to have an expert contact you. The expert will then have you upload all of your documents. They should then set up an appointment with you to review what they find. That expert will sign your return and submit it for you. It could take about a week.
