Can I file taxes late without an extension?

I did not file my taxes for 2016 and I did not request an extension in time. Should I still file my taxes? Will I even receive a tax return? If I do not receive a return because it is late and I did not file an extension, will I still be charged by TurboTax?

You still can (and should) file your taxes as soon as possible. 

If you owe money to the IRS, they will ADD interest and a late filing penalty fee --which will only increase as time passes until you file.

If you are due a refund the IRS will not asses any additional charges, it will simply take longer for you to get your refund.
