they can't be done by Turbotax or for that matter any other do-it-yourself app that I know of. some pros maintain the software going back years. as stated any refunds are lost. if you owe and it's significant a pro might be best. penalties and interest can add more than 50% to the taxes owed. a pro may be able to negotiate a settlement.

That is a reasonable question, but if you never file a tax return for a specific year the statute of limitations never begins to run.
