Since "divorced" is not a filing status for a tax return, Single would be your filing status unless you got married in 2021.

Yes. If you were legally divorced on the last day of your filing year, you are single (or Head of Household, or Widow, if applicable), but not Married.

Can I file "Single" if I've been divorced for 24 years?

Yes, you can file as a single if you are not married after your divorce 24 years ago.

 

You may be eligible to file as Head of Household if you satisfy the following conditions.

 

  1. Were unmarried as of December 31, 2021
  2. Paid more than half the cost to run your home this year
  3. Supported  qualifying person
