Yes, you can do that if you want to. But if you used TurboTax to prepare your state return, you still have to pay the fee for using the state software program to prepare your state return. There is not a charge to e-file the state return. The fee is the same whether you e-file or mail it.

Note exactly true. If you bought a package that includes the state software download fee, you can file one e-file for free. I usually e-file the federal and mail in the state forms prepared by TurboTax.
