Can I file my partner's taxes (as well as mine) on the online (not desktop version) of TurboTax?

Just wondering if I need to buy the desktop version in order to file more than one person's taxes, or if the online version is capable of doing that. I've only ever filed my own taxes using the online version.

Online is only good for 1 return per account.  But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts.   How to start another return in the Online version

The Desktop CD/Download program can do unlimited returns.

Thats why if you need to do more than 1 return we recommend you buy the Desktop CD/Download program.  It can do unlimited returns and efile 5 for free.  And you can buy a lower version.  All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.  Buy the Desktop program in stores or directly from Turbo Tax here

If you buy the Desktop program here's some info on transferring from last year.

Transfer from Online into the Windows Desktop program.   Expand the 3rd blue link

One way is to start a 2020 Online return and transfer into that.  Then you can download the .tax2020 file from online and just OPEN it in the Desktop program.

OR

If you used the online version last year and need to transfer your info to this year's Desktop version there are 2 ways depending on what you have.

1.  If you saved the actual .tax2019 file (not just the pdf file) to your computer before online was shut down in Oct. then start a new return  and the very first thing you do is Transfer from .tax file.  You can only transfer at the very beginning.

2.  If you didn't save the .tax  file to your computer or lost it,  there is a way to do it by starting a 2020 return in the Online version, transfer to that and then continue in the desktop version.  You won't have to pay for Online.

First transfer into the Online version

Then to switch to the Desktop program
