Depends on a number of factors. Was your son a full time student for any one semester that started in 2018, as an undergraduate? Was he under the age of 24 on Dec 31 of the tax year? Was your son single on Dec 31 of the tax year? Does your son claim any dependents? If over the age of 23 on Dec 31 of the tax year, did he earn more than $4,150 in 2018?

Below is a link with additional criteria to claim him as a dependent.  If he does not meet age requirements (under 19 if not a student and under 24 if a full-time student), he would need to have earned less than $4,150 in order for you to claim him.
