Can I claim my live in disabled boyfriend as a dependent if he had no income

Yes, you may if you meet the following requirements:

  • Gross Income: He earned less than $4,200 in 2019.
  • Total Support: You provide more than half of the total support for the year. - Support Test
  • Residence: Lived with you all year as a member of your household
  • He cannot be claimed by anyone else.

He does not need to be your relative.

Here is the IRS calculator to determine who can claim him. https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/whom-may-i-claim-as-a-dependent

You may be able to if he is not claimed by anyone else, he lived with you all year,  he made less than $4050 and you provided more than half his support  (https://apps.irs.gov/app/vita/content/globalmedia/teacher/worksheet_for_determining_support_4012.pdf ).

I hope this was helpful?
