A child born during the year is considered to have lived with you the entire year. When answering the dependency questions for your child, you answer that the child lived with you the whole year.
For an unmarried person to file as head of household, they must have paid more than half the cost of keeping up a household for the year. The home must be the main home for more than 1/2 the year for your child who you claim as a qualifying child dependent. A child who was born during the last half of the year should qualify you as long as they lived with you more than half the time since they were born.
